While Tesla is debuting the Model X in Europe this week at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker invited Signature Model X reservation holders in Europe to configure their vehicle, and in doing so, it revealed the all-electric SUV’s European pricing.
Some early reservation holders are surprised by the price and took to the forums to discuss the situation, which varies country by country.
TMC board member and Model X EU Signature #44 reservation holder pjhartog reports that the X P90D starts at €162,000 ($176,000) versus $132,000 in the US.
In Germany, a fully loaded Model X P90D will reportedly cost €172,000 ($187,000).
The price are significantly more expensive than in the US after accounting for exchange rates, but of course they include VAT as it’s required in Europe.
Tesla is expected to start shipping Model X’s in Europe during the second half the year.

So how much is the VAT in the US? Or there isn’t such a thing? Do you have to pay anything above the sticker price of a car aside from destination fee and registration?
sales taxes are state by state and generally much less than on EU.
Shaking in my boots the model 3 won’t be quite as price competitive either here if it comes out for 42k euros… I know they have assembly in the Netherlands factory… GM handled the price well with the Ampera. 2012 model is just 13k usd second hand and was ~32k new.
The one good thing, is the US doesn’t have VAT killing car sales. US new Car tax averages about 5%. It varies between 0% (Oregon) and 8% (Washington DC). In my home state of VA its 4.1% for new. Used car sales prices are often not disclosed so can be as low as $75.
In Norway I just ordered a fully loaded Signature Tesla X (ludicrous included) for $154.400. The Ludicrous was about $10.000 and other options about $5.000
Fully loaded Model S costs 135.400€ + VAT (21% in Czech Rep.) = 163.830€ — does not include DualCharger wich is very important here.
Its been said on TMC the single charger of the X is a 72kW unit compared to the optional 2x40kW units of the S.
not kW, A! 40+40A in the Model S versus 1x72A in the Model X in the US.
Volt times Ampère results in Watts. So @230V 40+40A will give you 18’000 watts or 18kW. In Europe a different charger is used that can handle the 3 phases we have at 400V with different ampere ratings but slightly more watts in the end. (11 or up to 22kW possible in the Model S).

it is not 72kW, but 72A one phase.
In Europe we have 3-phase network so in Europe it won’t be 72A, but more likely 3x24A. Model S has here 3x16A with single charger or 3x32A with dual charger. USA is not the only market for Tesla.

I bet, the xmodel will be a total failure in Europe….as for that kind of money even the luxury german brands are below….
A lot of people in Europe also think they’re being ripped off by Apple because they compare store prices in the US website (without sales tax) with the European ones (with VAT). The controversy is pumped.
