Hot and ready: Mercedes is taking orders for its new eArocs 400 vocational truck

First shown at last year’s Bauma construction expo, the all-new Mercedes-Benz eActros promised great range, awesome performance, and massive payload capacities from its new, HD vocational electric semi truck. Now, the company is ready to take orders.

Offered in 37 and 44 tonne-rated versions in a high-traction 8×4/4 axle configuration with four wheelbase options, the all-new Mercedes-Benz eArocs 400 offers engineering and construction firms serious battery-powered performance in both on- and off-highway scenarios, making an ideal platform for heavy haul, recovery, dump bed, and concrete mixing applications.

That’s the sort of capability that’s exceedingly rare in the electric heavy truck market – with only the 3-axle Kenworth T880E coming to mind as competition (and that’s on the wrong side of the pond to trouble Mercedes much).

“With the new battery-electric eArocs 400, we are enabling locally CO2-free operation even in demanding construction environments,” explains Stina Fagerman, head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. “The vehicle combines the robustness required with an efficient electric drive system, covering key use cases in near-road construction. This supports our customers in sustainably advancing and future-proofing their fleets.”

The eArocs 400 itself is powered by a 450 kW (~600 hp) electric motor drawing power from a pair of 207 kWh battery packs stored vertically behind the cab. Moving the battery forward helps keep weight over the steering axles for more control – critically important in the kind of mud and gravel environments this truck will be expected to perform in.

The truck offers what Mercedes-Benz calls “full-day operation,” and can be recharged from 10-80% in under 45 minutes thanks to 400 kW charging on its 800V on-board electrical system.

Other features include Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 for improved ergonomic switch panel and voice control, modern ADAS offerings like Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, Active Sideguard Assist 2, and Front Guard Assist, and advanced digital telematics.

Customers in an initial 13 European countries can now place their orders for the new truck, with limited production of 150 units set to begin in Q3 at Mercedes’ Wörth am Rhein plant.
