BYD is gearing up to add a new electric SUV to its popular Yuan EV lineup. The latest model, “Yuan Max,” was spotted in China for the first time ahead of its debut, rocking a familiar look.

Another day, another new BYD electric vehicle was caught testing in China. Although the new electric SUV was heavily disguised, it appears to maintain a similar design to the Yuan Plus, one of BYD’s top-selling models.
The newly surfaced spy images from Chinese online news outlet Autohome reveal a front-end design and silhouette much like that of the Yuan Plus, sold overseas as the Atto 3.
However, the C-Pillar appears to be a bit longer than the Yuan Plus, suggesting it will be closer in size to the Song Pro. The Yuan Plus is 4,455 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, while the Song Pro is 4,735 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
According to the report, BYD’s new electric SUV is expected to be named Yuan Max when it arrives, joining the popular Yuan series.

Interior spy photos reveal the Chinese symbol “Yuan” on the steering wheel. Outside of that, the setup remains closer to BYD’s other vehicles with a floating central infotainment screen and smaller driver display.
The lineup only includes the Yuan Plus and Yuan Up, but it’s still one of BYD’s best-selling series. In overseas markets, they are rebranded as the Atto 2 and Atto 3.

Data from CnEVPost shows BYD sold just over 393,000 Yuan vehicles in the first 11 months of the year, accounting for 9.4% of its overall sales.
The new Yuan Max will reportedly fill the gap between the Yuan Plus and Song Plus in BYD’s growing electric SUV lineup. It will be the largest member of the Yuan series, possibly offering a third row of seating.
The sighting comes after BYD confirmed plans to launch a pair of high-end flagship EVs earlier this month, the Seal 08 sedan and Sealion 08 SUV. They are expected to debut in early 2026, showcasing BYD’s latest software, ADAS, and other advanced vehicle tech.
