BMW is killing off the iX in the US to make room for the first Neue Klasse EV

BMW is pulling the iX from its US lineup as it prepares to launch the first Neue Klasse EV later this year, the all-new iX3.

The iX arrived in the US in 2021 as BMW’s first dedicated electric SUV. With its next-generation models launching later this year, BMW is officially discontinuing the iX in the US.

A company spokesperson confirmed the move in a statement sent to BMWBlog on Monday, saying, “We are concluding US allocation of the BMW iX as we prepare for the next generation of our fully electric vehicles.”

The spokesperson added that BMW remains “fully committed to electrification in the US” and is “transitioning to our upcoming Neue Klasse models, beginning with the BMW iX3.” BMW is only discontinuing the iX in the US. It will continue selling it in overseas markets.

Built on its latest Gen6 eDrive tech, the iX3 will spearhead BMW’s “Neue Klasse era,” which the company claims will offer 30% faster charging and a 30% improvement in driving range compared to its previous system.

The new BMW iX3 is set to launch in the US later this year. Powered by a 108.7 kWh battery, the Neue Klasse iX3 offers a WLTP range of up to 805 km (500 miles). In the US, it’s projected to have an EPA-estimated range of up to 400 miles.

With a peak DC fast-charging capacity of up to 400 kW, BMW said the electric SUV can add 373 km (231 miles) of range in about 10 minutes.

The interior is even more impressive than the exterior, featuring BMW’s Neue Klasse cabin design. The setup includes a 17.9″ touchscreen infotainment display at the center with BMW’s Panoramic Vision 3D Head-Up Display spanning the entire base of the windshield.

After opening orders in Europe in September, BMW’s CEO said the new iX3 has secured over 50,000 orders in just six months, or a third of the company’s total since its debut.

BMW began deliveries in Europe last month, with prices starting at €73,925 ($85,200). In the US, the 2026 BMW iX3 50 xDrive will go on sale this summer with a starting MSRP of around $60,000.

At that, it will cost less than the 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70 ($64,380), the Porsche Macan Electric ($80,300), the Audi Q6 e-tron ($63,800), the Rivian R1S ($76,990), and the Mercedes EQS ($89,950). Which one would you choose? Let us know in the comments.
