Genesis’ best-selling electric SUV in the US is due for an upgrade. The Genesis GV70 Electrified update is officially getting a bigger 84 kWh battery, following the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5.
The GV70 Electrified is the luxury brand’s third all-electric model, following the GV60 and Electrified G80.
Launched in the US just last February, the Electrified GV70 is already the brand’s top-selling EV. It was also the first Genesis electric model assembled in the US in Montgomery, Alabama.
Since arriving at dealerships, the electric SUV has helped expand sales from just 15 states to 37 as of May 2024. According to Cox Automotive, Genesis sold 2,343 GV70 Electrified models in the US through September 2024, up 144% from last year.
Although it’s only been on the market for about a year and a half, Genesis is already preparing the Electrified GV70 update.
According to TheKoreanCarBlog, a new electric GV70 model with a larger 84 kWh battery pack passed through Korea’s Emission & Noise Certification Information System (KENCIS).

The new unit is likely similar to the new battery found in the updated 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Long Range models. Hyundai said the higher battery capacity enables over 310 miles range on the new IONIQ 5, up from 303 miles on the current RWD model.
The 2025 Electrified GV70 started at $66,950 and has an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 236 miles.
Although the updated model isn’t expected to be completely overhauled, it will likely feature Genesis’ new 27″ OLED navigation screen, found on the 2025 GV80. Like the new IONIQ 5, the Electrified GV70 update is expected to gain a few miles of driving range from the new batteries and a more efficient design.
Genesis is expected to unveil the updated electric GV70 in Korea later this year, with the US and EU-spec models to follow by the end of 2024.
The 2025 model year has already gained several new features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
