The first Genesis to get a sporty “Magma” upgrade will be the all-electric GV60. Genesis confirmed the GV60 Magma EV is set to launch next year with performance and design upgrades, kicking off a new era for the luxury automaker.
Genesis launched the GV60, its first dedicated electric vehicle, in 2021. Three years later, the luxury electric SUV is spearheading the brand’s new Magma program.
The GV60 Magma concept was introduced globally in March at Genesis House New York. Genesis describes Magma as “the brand’s expansion into the realm of high-performance vehicles.”
The brand aims for its Magma models to be “a high-end variant” for each model in its lineup, starting with the GV60.
Genesis upgraded the GV60 with an improved battery and motor. It also fine-tuned the chassis, profile, and thermodynamics for added dynamics.
The GV60 Magma is lower and wider than the existing model, enabling a lower center of gravity for a sportier feel. The brand also adds a Magma-exclusive sound system for an “auditory experience” on the road.
Genesis reveals GV60 Magma EV launch date
Magma models will feature a new human-machine interface (HMI). Genesis claims that by showing only essential data and functions, drivers can be fully immersed while driving.
Each Magma vehicle will focus on three fundamental attributes: “Unspoken Dominance,” “Captivating Control,” and “Sharpened Immersion.”
Genesis confirmed the GV60 Magma will launch as an EV model next year in Korea, followed by Europe. According to Genesis, it will “closely resemble the concept model.” Genesis aims to begin production in Q3 2025.
The sporty electric SUV made its global debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday. It will be the first time a Magma model is shown in action.
In another first for the luxury automaker, Genesis will race the GV60 Magma Concept in the Shootout Sunday to show off its speed and agility.
The GV60 Magma was showcased along with other Genesis vehicles, including the G80 EV Magma concept, which also made its global debut. Genesis unveiled the G80 EV Magma concept in April, previewing its new Tesla Model S Plaid challenger.
Genesis is displaying its three existing EVs, the GV60, Electrified GV70, and Electrified G80, on the second floor.
Several other electric sports cars, including the MG Cyber GTS, were unveiled at Goodwood on Thursday. MG’s new hardtop electric sports car is already drawing comparisons to the Porsche 911.
