Octopus Energy is bringing Tesla Powerwall perks to its customers

Octopus Energy and Tesla’s new partnership means Octopus can install Powerwalls and give its customers with Powerwalls better price tariffs.

Octopus Energy is becoming a certified Tesla Powerwall installer in the UK and Spain.

Octopus Energy customers with Tesla Powerwalls in the UK and Spain will be given access to new price tariffs and can charge their batteries when energy prices are lower. That’s fully automated by the advanced utility operating system Kraken, the world’s largest virtual power plant. Kraken manages over 1 GW of shiftable power through connected devices.

Powerwall customers can access Octopus’ range of smart tariffs, including “Intelligent Octopus Flux.” The tariff maximizes customers’ earnings by charging their batteries when prices are low and selling when they are high to support the grid during peak periods.

That saves the average customer around £250 ($317) a year compared to a standard import and export tariff. Plus, those customers with Tesla Powerwalls are beneficial for customers who don’t have them because the Powerwalls help keep the grid balanced for everyone.

Colby Hastings, director of residential energy at Tesla, said, “This integration of Powerwall with Octopus Energy will increase value for homeowners while maintaining an excellent product experience. We are excited to collaborate with Octopus as we work towards powering the grid of the future.”

Octopus is rolling out solar panels, heat pumps, electric car chargers, and smart meters in hundreds of thousands of customer homes globally.

The company plans to hire up to 4,000 new team members in its UK services division in 2024 to speed up the energy transition. Dedicated customer support teams in both countries will support the Powerwall installations.
