Tesla Model S becomes sneaky undercover police car

While we are seeing a surprising number of police forces going electric with Tesla vehicles recently, this latest Tesla police vehicle is still quite unique: a Tesla Model S undercover police car.

Earlier this week, we reported on the Basel police force modifying a fleet of Tesla Model X vehicles into electric patrol vehicles to go into operation soon.

Netherlands-based ForcePro, a supplier of police equipment, helped make the project happen.

They say that they are “building the Tesla’s for several Police Forces with the permission of Tesla.”

After our article about the Model X police vehicles, Theo Karafantis, commercial director of ForcePro, reached out to us about their latest project: an undercover police car based on the Tesla Model S.

He sent us a bunch of images of the vehicle, which was unveiled last month:

It features a bunch of well-hidden police lights that you can only see if they are activated.

They also fitted the interior with an onboard mounted police computer and a custom storage unit in the back for the police gear.

Karafantis says that ForcePro built the Tesla Model S undercover car for the Dutch Police Force.

As we previously stated, Tesla vehicles are becoming strangely popular with police departments all over the world.

In the US, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Denver Police Department are both using Model S sedans as part of their fleets.

In Europe, Scotland Yard says that it is considering the vehicle and the Luxembourg Police converted two Model S sedans to patrol cars.

The Ontario Police also recently received a brand new Model X, which they also converted to a police vehicle.

Starting next week, the Basel Canton police force in Switzerland is starting to deploy its first Tesla Model X police patrol vehicles, which are replacing some diesel vehicles that are currently in their fleet.

While the base cost of acquisition of Tesla vehicles is higher than for usual police cars, the cost of operations is way lower and since police vehicles see a lot of mileage, there are a lot of opportunities for significant gas savings.
