Ahead of the launch of the Mission E, Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle now known as the Taycan, the German automaker is now launching an electric car charging mobile app and service for its customers.
The “Porsche Charging Service” aims to make charging easier by “searching for suitable charging stations and using centrally stored data to handle the payment process – across multiple countries and currencies.”
Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, commented on the launch of the new service:
“In addition to fascinating vehicles, building a customer-friendly charging infrastructure is the key to achieving long-term success for electromobility. With the Porsche Charging Service, we are offering our customers a central digital platform that simplifies every aspect of the charging process. As a result, it is even easier to integrate charging into everyday life.”
The charging service is currently available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland. Porsche says that it will gradually expand to include other countries from the end of 2018.
In Germany, the cost of using the Porsche Charging Service is EUR 2.50 per month on top of the rates at the stations.
Users get real-time data about the location and availability of charging stations, as well as the cost of charging a vehicle.

The release of the app comes as Porsche is expanding its own charging infrastructure effort ahead of the launch of the Taycan.
Earlier this year, the German automaker announced a plan to deploy a network of 500 EV charging stations in North America to be online as soon as next year.
As for Europe, Porsche is part of the Ionity charging network, which is currently deploying “ultra-fast charging stations” across the continent.
We also reported about Porsche deploying their new 800-volt fast-charging technology at their North American headquarters in Atlanta last year.
Those new stations should be added to Porsche’s app as they come online even though the automaker doesn’t have all-electric vehicles currently on the market. The brand’s plug-in hybrids can use the level 2 chargers listed on the app.
