Schaeffler has built a crazy new all-electric vehicle by adding a battery pack and 4 Formula E electric motors to an Audi RS3 in order to create a 880 kW all-electric racing car.
Simon Opel, Director Special Projects Motorsports at Schaeffler, says that the built the vehicle, which is called the “Schaeffler 4ePerformance”, as a “test laboratory”:
“For Schaeffler, this vehicle is a test laboratory on wheels thanks to its free scaling options for the drive power. We are currently testing and developing our own driving dynamics control system, which is based on physical vehicle and wheel modeling. We have been learning a lot especially in the area of software-based driving dynamics control systems”,
The German engineering and manufacturing group was already familiar with the Formula E motor through its involvement with Audi’s Formula E team.
But they went to a whole new level by putting four of them in a single car and each of which provides a power output of 220 kW.
It is also equipped with two battery packs with an overall capacity of 64 kWh for a modest range, but it’s enough for Schaeffler to perform its tests.
