Watch a Tesla Model 3 set the new quarter-mile record

The Tesla Model 3, or at least its current version, is not the dragstrip beast that its bigger older sibling, the Model S, has been known to be, but it can still be a fun car to bring to the track.

It now sets a new quarter-mile record to beat: 13 seconds.

We are not talking anything close to the Tesla Model S P100D real-world quarter-mile record of 10.723 seconds, but it’s still impressive for the kind of power that the Model 3 packs.

The new Model 3 record was set by YouTuber JR Garage at the Street Speed 717 YouTuber callout event at Cecil Count dragway last week.

He wrote about the event:

“Today we set the new Tesla Model 3 Quarter 1/4 mile world record at the Street Speed 717 YouTuber callout event at Cecil Count dragway! 13.330 seconds at 104.07 MPH. That is way quicker than I was expecting. The 0-60 time is also in the mid 4 second range! It was nothing compared to the Dodge Demons, Camaro ZL1s, and CTSVs at the event however! We love our new Tesla Model 3 🙂 It was great meeting all the JR Garage fans and hanging out with Vehicle Virgins, GuitarmageddonZL1, Streetspeed717, AutoVlog, and Dragtimes!”

Electrek’s Take

That’s quite good for the RWD single motor version of the Model 3 and it is getting us excited about what the AWD dual motor and the performance versions could do.

After several new Model 3 owners have brought their vehicles to the track, it does look like Tesla has been underselling the acceleration of the Model 3.

We have seen the Model 3 accelerates as quick as 4.6 secs from 0 to 60 mph.

There has been a lot of speculation about what the Model 3 dual motor, which is expected to come to production in the next few months, would be able to do.

The general consensus is that it will be in the 3-second range even though Tesla might not advertise it that way and then a performance version with a potentially more powerful rear-wheel-drive motor could even beat that.

Last month, a Tesla Model 3 with dual motor and air suspension, suspected to be a ‘Performance’ version, was spotted on a race track being used by the automaker.
