Tesla CEO Elon Musk to join President Trump to talk about infrastructure with other business leaders

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to hold a meeting with officials and business leaders today to discuss his $1 trillion infrastructure program.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk will be present at the meeting, according to a White House official talking to Reuters.

Trump’s infrastructure plan involves investments in public projects like roads, bridges, airports, but he will be looking for inputs from his advisors – Musk being one of them as part of the President’s Strategic and Policy Forum and new manufacturing council.

He will certainly have a lot to contribute in term of inputs on infrastructure through his involvements in the sector with Tesla, hyperloop, and now even his new “Boring Company”.

The Obama administration had recently announced new ‘EV corridors’ to accelerate deployment of electric vehicles and charging stations. Musk could have a lot to say on how to better prepare U.S. roads for electric vehicles whether it’d be through the same program or a new one.

Tesla’s CEO could also push for his other more recent ideas, like a network of hyperloop systems to replace high-speed trains or his idea to invest more in tunnels. Those are all projects that need government support at some level.

Musk recently explained his reasoning for being on President Trump’s advisory council after some backlash. He says that while he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s policies, he believes that the best approach is to have more moderate voices advising him, which he is apparently trying to do.

New Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Energy Secretary Rick Perry are also expected to attend the meeting today, along with several business leaders like General Atlantic CEO Bill Ford, and McKinsey & Co partner Tyler Duvall and Lynn Scarlett.
