While Tesla doesn’t advertise with TV spots like most automakers, though most automakers don’t advertise electric vehicles either according to a recent study, it doesn’t stop fans from creating their own commercials.
We have seen a ton of them at this point. Some good ones, some not so good, and some truly incredible ones. Now it seems that one fan-made commercial will have the chance to be aired officially by Tesla through an upcoming competition suggested by a 5th grader.
The idea of working with those dedicated fans is not exactly a new idea. CEO Elon Musk already said that he would like to work with the two film school grads who made one of the most popular Tesla fan-made commercials: “Modern Spaceship” (pictured above and video below).
But the idea to make it a competition is new.
As part of a school project, a 5th grader sent a letter to Musk making the suggestion:
“I have noticed that you do not advertise, but many people make homemade commercials for Tesla and some of them are very good, they look professional and they are entertaining. So, I think that you should run a competition on who can make the best homemade Tesla commercial and the winners will get their commercial aired.”
The CEO responded on Twitter that it “sounds like a great idea” and that Tesla “will do it”:
Thank you for the lovely letter. That sounds like a great idea. We'll do it! https://t.co/ss2WmkOGyk

There would already be some great contenders for such a competition. Like Modern Spaceship, as already mentioned, but also others like one in which they used quotes from a great speech Nikola Tesla made or one made by an actual professional commercial director who decided to make a uncommissioned TV spot himself for Tesla.
I'm of the opinion that fan created EV marketing can be quite effective. Just sayin'. 😉👍🏻🚗⚡#electriccars #ChevyJolt #plugin #letsdothis https://t.co/z6wAKKo4Hp
