While there was a lot of attention on the announcement of the new 100 kWh ludicrous Model S and X battery yesterday, it was also an important day for Tesla in the land down under with the official release of the quickest SUV in Australia.

As of August 23rd, 2016, Tesla’s futuristic Model X is now open for orders in Australia. In a small media briefing via news.com.au, Heath Walker, Tesla’s Australia marketing and communications manager, was ecstatic to share that the Falcon-winged SUV:

“Model X is the safest, quickest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history. And that the company focused on “three major things” in the creation of the Model X: safety, performance and utility.”

Currently, the variation lineup for the Model X is 60D, 75D, 90D, P90D, and, now, P100D. Though, we suspect that the P90D will slowly be phased out with the latest and greatest performance model now available. With the base Model X starting off at $112,000 in Australian currency (~$85,000), after luxury tax and other associated expenses, the total will end up closer to $125,000 (~$95,000). In addition, Mr. Walker stated that the fully loaded Model X would near the $300,000 mark.

During his presentation at the launch, Walker suggested that the government should remove the luxury vehicle tax for electric vehicles in order to spur demand in the segment.

Straight from the ‘Find Us‘ page, you can find a couple of Tesla stores in Sydney, one of which is a recently opened flagship location, as well as a couple in Melbourne. And if you’re wanting to take a trip, you can do so with the Superchargers that are live in Euroa, Wondonga, Gundagai, Goulburn, and Port Macquarie along with the plethora of destination chargers across the main travel routes.

The expected Australian delivery timeline for the Model X is in the early half of 2017 which should include right-hand drive vehicles.
