Tesla has been tuning its referral program for close to a year now. The automaker went through 3 rounds with different rules, rewards and discounts. The last round ended in mid-April and the company hasn’t updated the program until now.
This weekend Tesla reactivated the referral links and now a new offer of $1,000 in credit is available through the new referral program with both Model S and X orders.
When using the referral code, the $1,000 doesn’t seem to apply on the vehicle itself – leading us to believe it might be a credit to your Tesla account for accessories or services. The automaker didn’t update the referral program’s page and therefore little is known about the details of the program at the moment.
We contacted company representatives to get more details and we will update once we get an answer, but it’s holiday in the US today so we don’t expect anything more until tomorrow.
Update: Tesla releases the details of its new referral program: custom wheels, Model X and more in prizes
During the last round of the referral program, Tesla offered $1,200 in credit toward the cost of a home charging installation, but some stores were applying it directly to the purchase of the Model S – virtually making the incentive a direct discount on the vehicle.
While that was the incentive for new buyers, the referrers were getting a chance to win a Model X Ludicrous P90D and/or a tour of SpaceX’s factory for each referral (up to 3) in a random drawing. In previous rounds, the rewards were not up to luck and the winners were instead determined through a competition with the goal of having as many referrals as possible.
It’s not clear which way Tesla is going for this latest round of the referral program, but the good news is that there’s a new incentive for new buyers. You can use our referral code for $1,000 in credit at the purchase of a new Model S or X.
