Tesla pushed a new update to its fleet this weekend (7.1.2.16.17). There’s no new release notes since the latest ‘Summon’ update and we have yet to see a report showing any significant improvement or new features. Although, the update appears to contain a new Easter Egg.
The automaker is known for often hiding Easter Eggs in its software updates. Here are some of the most recent ones:
- Tesla hid a The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Easter Egg in its Autopilot software release
- Tesla Model S Ludicrous Mode has a Space Balls Easter Egg
- Best Easter Egg ever? Tesla Model S control panel shows James Bond’s (now Elon Musk’s) Underwater Lotus
The latest hidden feature is particularly amusing. It changes the animation of the road detected by the Autopilot to a Mario Kart-style rainbow road. Here’s a video posted by a Model S P85D owner earlier today:
We haven’t tested it ourselves yet and it isn’t clear how to activate it. It is reportedly intermittent and only for a short period of time after activating the Autopilot as seen in the video.
Update: Elon Musk tweeted about the Easter Egg and how to activate it:
