Unless you had the chance to be at the unveiling event in September or you know one of the lucky few early ‘Founder Series’ or ‘Signature Series’ Model X owners, you probably never had the chance to sit or drive Tesla’s new all-electric SUV.
But we now learn that Tesla is letting more people have access to the vehicle through its ‘Meet Model X’ events. The company regularly holds similar events for the Model S.
Tesla is limiting the invitations to Model X reservation holders, presumably to help convert these reservations into orders, and it seems the automaker is seeing a lot of demand even if the invitations are limited to reservation holders. The first event reportedly reached capacity within an hour.
The company is going to hold the event next Friday at the customer delivery center of Tesla’s Fremont factory.
Tesla says it will be hosting another preview event for those who couldn’t get in. It’s safe to assume that the company will hold more similar events in more locations in the future, just like it does for the Model S.
In the meantime, until you can get first-hand experience with the vehicle, this might be one of the best preview videos of the Model X (despite the sound):

Does this say anything about the number of reservations being converted to confirmed orders or the level of interest since the launch??
All they’ve said was what they said on February 10: Orders for Model X are up 75% from year-ago period.
Oops. I mean two say reservations 🙂
Tesla completely screwed this up. As a reservation holder in LA I was notified Friday of a Meet the Model X event on Tuesday. This is my only chance to test drive the car in LA for 6 months and they give me 3 days notice!?!
I couldn’t possibly make it so now I’ve lost my only chance to test drive before I order for another 3-6 months, they said. I canceled my reservation and got my $5k back. I waited a year to test drive this thing and they go and do this.
This company has all the professionalism of a startup being run out of a Freshman dorm at Stanford. Lots of cool tech but an arrogant disregard for the avg consumer. Early adopters and techno geeks (who check the Tesla Facebook page 3x per day for updates) need only apply.
The owner of the TeslaLiving blog, himself a Model S driver, was unhappy with the brief test drive and hard-sell sales pitch at the Meet Model X event he was invited to.
