Chrysler unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show today the new 2017 Pacifica minivan with an option for a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The “Pacifica Hybrid” is equipped with a 16 kWh battery pack which allows for an all-electric range of 30 miles, according to the automaker.
The company expects achieving an EPA efficiency rating equivalent to 80 miles per gallon in city driving.
The battery packs, which is hidden in the floor under the second row seats, powers two electric motors when on all-electric and when the battery runs out, the 3.6-liter V6 engine kicks in.
The battery pack can be fully recharged in about two hours with a 240-volt charger.
Apart from the drivetrain, the hybrid version is almost identical to its counterpart. It is available with several new driver assist and active safety features, including 360-degree Surround View camera, ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Hold and Forward Collision Warning-Plus.
A full array of comfort and convenience technologies are also available, including Stow ‘n Vac integrated vacuum, tri-pane panoramic sunroof, handsfree sliding doors and liftgate.
Chrysler is expected to bring the Pacifica to market during the second half of the year. The company has yet to announce the pricing information.

3.6-liter V6 engine.
American cars. I’ll never get it. Why would you need such a large engine for driving around the suburbs or cruising on the motorway?
Anyway, an interesting car.
