A group of engineers based in Greece launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the production of a new three-wheeled solar and human-powered vehicle. Although I can’t imagine too many applications for the vehicle, the startup has a working prototype with some very interesting features.
The Sunncyclist is equipped with a battery pack, a solar array and the option for pedal generators, which a driver and/or passengers can use to further increase the range of the vehicle. On the battery alone, the Sunnycyclist can travel between 15 miles (25 km) and 43 miles (70 km) on a single charge depending on the version of the vehicle.
The solar panels can add up to 37 miles (60 km) per day and depending on how much you are willing to sweat, you can add a few miles with the pedal generators, which are removable and can be use to recharge other batteries at home.
The startup launched a flexible crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise €100,000 ($110,000) and they are selling the Sunncyclist starting from €6,500 ($7,100) during the campaign.
