Electric vehicles indeed produce less emissions than gasoline cars even when accounting for electricity generation [Full Study]

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) updated its study on the average greenhouse gas emissions of electric vehicles versus gasoline-powered vehicles based on electricity sources and reiterated that on average, EVs indeed create less emissions than gasoline-powered cars.

UCS based its modeling on the Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S, two cars at opposite ends of the all-electric spectrum, in order to update its breakdown by regions to account for local energy generation. You can see the map below the fold, as well as the full study:

In addition to the map, UCS offers a free and useful online tool called “How Clean is Your Electric Vehicle?” which determines the amount of CO2 emission per miles your electric vehicle produces based on its make, model, year and average electricity sources in your  ZIP code.
