In Tesla’s recently published 10Q SEC filing, the company confirmed that Jerome Guillen, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service, will be taking a leave of absence until December 31, 2015. Guillen has seen his responsibilities reduced earlier this year when Tesla decided to hire chiefs of sales for each region they operate in: North America, Europe and Asia.
During the conference call discussing their second quarter financial results, Elon Musk said they were still looking for someone to lead their sale team in Europe.
When the company announced the change with their management hierarchy, they said that Guillen will be focusing on the customer service experience. The executive is a favorite with Tesla owners. He is known for answering directly to Model S owners through emails and making the Tesla owner experience special.
Guillen holds a PhD in mechanical engineering. He was working for Daimler before joining Tesla in 2010. Prior to being promoted to the senior executive team at the company, he was the program director of Tesla’s award-winning sedan, the Model S.
Although it seems to be temporary in Guillen’s case, he is not the first Tesla executive to leave recently. During Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting, Tesla’s longtime CFO, Deepak Ahuja, announced he will retire. Ahuja will stay with the company until they find someone to take over Tesla’s financial team.
On a more positive note, in the same filling, Tesla announced that the company now considers Doug Field, VP of Engineering, to be a company officer. Field joined Tesla from Apple 2 years ago. He was VP of Mac Engineering at Apple. Prior to Apple, he was CTO at Segway. He also gives a mean test drive:
