Mercedes-Benz says that it started production of the EQC, an all-electric SUV and the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle built to be electric from the ground up, and it also started taking orders for the vehicle.
In Germany today, Mercedes-Benz announced the “EQC sales release and start of production.”
“The Mercedes-Benz EQC is produced at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant – and can be ordered now. There the EQC can be flexibly integrated into the ongoing series production of vehicles with combustion engine or hybrid drive. The high Mercedes-Benz production standards therefore ensure top quality across all vehicle models. As a CASE pioneer, the EQC 400 4MATIC offers extensive standard equipment and attractive services.”
Daimler says that it is being produced on the same line as the C-Class Saloon and Estate as well as the GLC and GLC Coupé in Bremen.
Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain, commented on the process:
“Flexibility and efficiency are decisive pillars of the strategy in our global production network at Mercedes-Benz Cars. Production of the EQC is perfect proof of this. The staff in Bremen have many years of experience in the production of vehicles with a wide range of drive types. We are building on this know-how in the electric age, too. With the start of production of the Mercedes-Benz EQC, we are turning the switch today – for the electric mobility of the future,”
Mercedes-Benz released this video about the start of production of the EQC electric SUV:
While production is starting now, deliveries are not expected to start until next month.
Earlier this year, it was reported that only “VIP customers” will get delivery in June, but that actual meaningful delivery volumes may not start before November.
The automaker recently said that the EQC SUV is already sold out for the year.
Mercedes-Benz has announced a range of a 450km (280 miles), but the company was still using the NEDC standard when it made the announcement.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the real-world range is much closer to around 200 miles on a single charge.
The battery pack will be powered by 2 asynchronous motors with a total capacity of 300 kW (408 hp). It can achieve a top speed of 180 km/h (111 mph) and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds.
According to the spec sheet, the EQC is equipped with a water-cooled onboard charger with a capacity of 7.4 kW and has a maximum capacity of “up to 110 kW at an appropriate charging station.“
The German automaker has yet to confirm the price in most markets, but it has an MSRP of 71,281.00€ in Germany (including 19% VAT).
