During a conference call following the released of the company’s financial results today, Tesla confirmed that its President of Sales and Services, Jon McNeill, is leaving the company.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that Sales and Services will be reporting to him directly without any plan for someone to replace McNeill.
As Musk was announcing McNeil’s departure, Lyft announced that they hired him as Chief Operating Officer.
The ride-sharing company wrote in a press release about the hire:
“Prior to joining Lyft, Jon led all customer-facing operations for Tesla, as the President of Global Sales & Service. During his time at Tesla, sales more than doubled, customer satisfaction increased to record levels, and his organization scaled to over 10,000 people across 32 countries. While scaling, Jon’s teams also changed the auto industry by innovating mobile services as well as the in-store and digital sales experience. Jon’s passion to change transportation for the better goes back to his days as a founder and CEO. He has successfully started and run eight technology and retail companies that included the first national chain of automotive collision centers as well as multiple insurance related businesses. Jon began his career at Bain & Company and is a graduate of Northwestern University. “
McNeill was hired at Tesla in November 2016 for the newly created role of President of Global Sales & Service.
He became known within the Tesla community for sometimes reaching out directly to some owners through the forums and social media to address issues.
On the image featured above (by Bonnie Norman), he is seen giving the delivery tour of the Model 3 to a buyer with stage 4 terminal cancer whose dying wish was to get his own Model 3.
McNeill is probably the most high-profile executive to leave Tesla in recent months – at least since Tesla veteran executive Diarmuid O’Connell left in September.
