There are cars that popularized some aesthetic body mods, like a Honda Civic with a black bonnet.
Tesla’s Model 3 with its peculiarities and its apparent imminent popularity, at least based on the close to 500,000 reservations it accumulated, could possibly emerge as one of those cars.
One of those peculiarities is the standard aero wheels, which have partial covers on them.
A Tesla engineer said that they can increase the Model 3’s efficiency by ~10%.
Yet, some early owners are simply removing the covers because the wheels actually look quite nice without them.
While some are removing the covers, others are instead coloring them.
By “some” I mean two, so I wouldn’t really call it a trend yet, but it’s still something when you consider there are only a few hundred Model 3 vehicles on the road today.
A red Model 3 with matching aero wheel covers has been spotted a few times over the last few weeks (picture by Canihaveyourmilk) and we got pictures of a new blue Model 3 also with matching wheels (pictures via anon):
So what do we think about colored aero wheel covers matching the Model 3’s color?
Personally, I’m stuck between thinking it makes the Model 3 looks like a matchbox car toy and thinking that there’s actually a retro charm to the look.
