Polestar EVs are a smoking deal at $25k off now that they’re banned in the US

On the back of the Commerce Department’s incredibly stupid move to ban Polestar from selling EVs in the US, the Polestar 4 is now nearly the cheapest EV in America after a $25k discount, and the Polestar 3 has a pretty great discount applied too.

Last week, the Commerce Department abruptly decided that Polestar, a Swedish company building electric cars in South Carolina (Polestar 3) and South Korea (Polestar 4) that run on American software made by Google, would be banned from selling cars in the US due to made-up cybersecurity concerns.

It turns out, due to the company being owned by Geely Automotive, Commerce decided they shouldn’t be able to sell connected vehicles starting in the 2027 model year. Volvo, which is also owned by Geely but which sells both EVs and gas-powered vehicles, somehow avoided the same fate, as did Mercedes which has significant investment from China and is also not an EV-exclusive brand.

But that dumb decision will at least make a few customers happy, as Polestar is now offering deep discounts on the Polestar 4, its quirky electric no-rear-window-having coupe, and the Polestar 3, its luxe SUV.

The Polestar 4 is a smoking deal at just $31.4k to start

The deal is available directly from Polestar’s website, where the discount is already applied, and marked as a “limited offer.” The $25k discount seems to apply to the full model line, either single or dual motor examples.

Right now, the only competition at a lower price than the Polestar 4 is the Chevy Bolt EV at $27k (read our review here) and the Nissan Leaf at $30k (read our review here). The Polestar 4 is one of few electric sedans left for sale in the US, and is now one of the cheapest EVs in America, as long as this deal continues.

If you’re looking to grab this deal, head on over to Polestar’s website or contact your local dealers and see if they’re running a similar deal.

The Polestar 3 is cheap, too

The Polestar 3, the company’s SUV, is also cheap, just not as cheap.

It’s listed with a $23k discount, and a starting price of $44,500. That’s relatively in line with a lot of other entry-level electric SUVs, but the Polestar 3 is a lot nicer than the rest at that price level. So it’s also a great deal, just not as phenomenal of a deal as the Polestar 4.

You can also check out the Polestar 3 deal on Polestar’s website.

This is happening for a stupid reason, but at least you can save money from it

Since the decision, confusion has set in among Polestar dealers, who invested money into building a business and inventory and offering jobs in their local community, yet were abruptly cast aside by a decision from an administration led by a moron who cannot legally hold office in the US.

Surely, none of this has anything to do with the fact that this anti-EV administration is trying to kill American manufacturing and hand the auto industry to China. Abruptly killing businesses for no reason is just the kind of example that you would set if you wanted to scare anyone from setting up shop in your country, so the republicans’ goal of diminishing America on the world stage seems to be moving along just fine.

These discounts are obviously a way to make up for concerns that might have seen customers less willing to purchase a vehicle given uncertainty from a government being run into the ground by a senile idiot who is incapable of even paramecium-level thought about any topic.

But given that the rule as it stands only bans sales from the brand in model year 2027 and later, the cars should remain driveable and usable for now. And since the cars still sell globally, software should continue to be updated (though there’s always a chance some dumb rule gets in the way of all this).

For customers who don’t mind the risk of buying from a brand that will likely have at least a few years of uncertainty (in a country that will likely have more than a few years of uncertainty due to the actions of the idiots that are currently squatting in its government and doing everything they impotently can to make the country worse), this offers one of the cheapest ways to get into an EV in the US.

So enjoy the deal. Then call your representatives and tell them how unbelievably stupid it is that we’re pretending the dumbass in the Oval Office should be allowed to make any decisions when he probably doesn’t even remember what color his shoelaces are. But only after you get your $25k off a sweet ride.
