Lucid’s (LCID) Gravity can charge at Tesla Superchargers, but here’s why it will be faster

Lucid’s (LCID) first electric SUV, the Gravity, will officially be able to charge up at Tesla Superchargers starting on January 31. With access coming soon, Lucid shared details about its new tech that unlocks even faster charging.

We already knew the electric SUV would have a native NACS port after CEO Peter Rawlinson confirmed it in September.

Lucid launched the Gravity just before the end of 2024, claiming it “heralds the dawn of a new era for electric SUVs” with an EPA-estimated range of up to 450 miles.

After delivering the first model in December, Lucid’s Gravity became the first non-Tesla sold with a native NACS port. The port is located on the rear driver’s side, like Tesla vehicles, so it is easy to plug in at V3 and V4 Tesla Superchargers.

Lucid confirmed on Tuesday that Gravity will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharging network starting on January 31.

The EV maker also gave us a closer look at the new charging and powertrain tech that sets the Gravity apart “as both a daily driver and road trip vehicle.”

Lucid Gravity can charge faster at Tesla Superchargers

“Lucid Gravity offers next-level fast charging speeds and seamless access to the top charging networks, including Tesla Superchargers and Electrify America,” Lucid’s VP of powertrain, Emad Dlala, explained.

Powered by a new 926V powertrain and 123 kWh battery, the Gravity can achieve charging speeds of up to 400 kW.

However, that’s on a 1000V charger. On 500V fast chargers, like Tesla V3 Superchargers, the SUV can sustain charging speeds of up to 225 kW.

Lucid developed new tech, applying it to the rear motor drive unit to unlock faster charging speeds. Unlike many rivals, the company claimed that its pack-splitting solution enables the highest voltage that a charging station can output.

At peak charging rates, Lucid said the Gravity can sustain “a robust charging curve,” with the capability to add 200 miles in less than 12 minutes. But it won’t be easy finding charging stations with that charging power as most in the US are 400V with a growing number of 800V options.

Earlier today, Electrek reported that all V4 Superchargers can now charge up to 325 kW in North America. However, only the Cybertruck can take advantage for now.

Lucid credits an advanced new cooling system with more thermal capacity for unlocking faster charging, long-distance towing, and superior hot and cold weather performance.

The Gravity also features a new Panasonic battery cell (2170 cylindrical lithium-ion) and a low 0.24 Cd for added efficiency. Combined with Lucid’s proprietary EV tech, the Gravity provides up to 450 miles EPA-estimated range.

Lucid’s Gravity Grand Touring model is available to order, starting at $94,900. The lower-priced Touring trim, which will launch in late 2025, will start at $79,900.

For the Lucid Air owners out there, don’t worry. Lucid said the Air is expected to gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in Q2 2025. Check back soon for more info.
