BYD’s new Dolphin EV just leaked: Here’s our first look at the updated best-seller

Another one of BYD’s best-selling electric cars is due for an overhaul. BYD’s new Dolphin EV just leaked in China, giving us a sneak peek at the updated model for the first time.

Meet BYD’s new Dolphin EV, launching soon

The Dolphin is one of BYD’s top-selling EVs, not only in China but also in overseas markets like Brazil, Thailand, and Europe.

In November alone, BYD sold over 21,700 Dolphin models, bringing the 2024 total to an impressive 176,560 units.

Starting at under $13,800 (99,800 yuan), the Dolphin is also one of BYD’s most affordable electric cars. Although BYD just launched the 2025 model in July, the electric hatch is already due for an upgrade.

On Monday, BYD’s new Dolphin EV was leaked by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Tech (MIIIT). The updated model features slightly modified front and rear ends, giving it a more sporty, athletic look. Like other refreshed cars, BYD switched out the “Build Your Dreams” badge on the back for its new “BYD” logo.

At 4,280 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall, the new Dolphin is 155 mm longer than the current 2025 model.

As expected, it will still be powered by BYD’s Blade LFP battery packs. The new model will be available with three electric motor options: 70 kW (94 hp), 150 kW (201 hp), and a new 130 kW (174) option.

BYD is also adding new ADAS features to its updated models with optional front, rear, and side radar and cameras. Other optional features include a panoramic sunroof, black roof, rear privacy glass, and various rim choices.
