Lucid’s modified Air Pursuit EV Police Cruiser will catch you if you try to run

There’s a new sheriff in town. A modified version of Lucid’s Air EV was recently tested by the California Highway Patrol. The fierce-looking “Lucid Pursuit” will catch you if you try to run with unrivaled range and performance.

Meet the Lucid Pursuit EV Police cruiser

The 2025 Lucid Air Pure is “the World’s most efficient car,” with a record efficiency rating of 5 mi/kWh. It also has the highest MPGe rating of any EV, with 146 MPGe from the EPA.

In other words, Lucid’s electric car is even more fuel-efficient than the popular Toyota Prius Hybrid and Honda Civic.

However, Lucid’s all-electric Air isn’t built for just long-range driving. The premium EV is also one of the quickest and most powerful vehicles on the road.

Lucid’s Air Sapphire can hit 0 to 60 mph in just 1.89 seconds. That’s faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder (2.1 secs), Buggati Bolide (2.17 secs, and Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale (2.3 secs). Basically, you won’t be outrunning one of these with your average (or even a not-so-average) car.

That said, Lucid’s Air EV makes the perfect Pursuit cruiser. A modified version was recently used in California Highway Patrol testing.

The Lucid Pursuit was fitted with a police light bar, dash light, brush guards, and other police-specific features. It also gets a nice set of new wheels.

If you were thinking about running away from Lucid’s police cruiser, think again. It will outrun and outlast most cars on the road today.

We see MPGe listed regularly for EVs, but I wish they would do the inverse and list miles per kilowatt hour for ICEVs.

The 2024 Civic gets about 0.9 to 1.4 miles per kilowatt hour.

The Prius gets slightly better at 1.7 miles per kilowatt hour.

My "inefficient" Polestar 2 gets on average about 3 miles per kilowatt hour, sometimes up to 4 if I'm driving like a granny or in traffic.

I wish more people would see and understand how inefficient even the most "efficient" ICE vehicles are.

After its third straight quarter of record deliveries, Lucid is gaining some traction. Lucid confirmed it will begin building its first electric SUV, the Gravity, later this year. Lucid’s CEO Peter Rawlinson calls the Gravity “a landmark product” with an expected up to 440-mile driving range. It starts at just under $80,000.

Looking ahead, Lucid will launch a new midsize electric SUV starting under $50,000, followed by a midsize electric sedan.

Rawlinson said the midsize models are aimed “right in the heart of Tesla Model 3, Model Y territory.” The company plans to begin production of its midsize models in late 2026.

What do you think of the Lucid Pursuit? When you see those lights behind you, there’s little chance of escaping.
