E1 electric boat racing series reveals first Grand Prix location for its second season in 2025

The UIM E1 World Championship, an electric boat racing series approaching the end of its inaugural season, is already looking ahead to season two in 2025. The E1 Series unveiled its first location, Qatar, where it will race its 100% electric boats.

The UIM E1 Championship Series is a new electric boat racing league trying to make its mark in the motorsports industry and grow its audience of fans around the globe. Its inaugural season originally consisted of eight scheduled Grad Prix, where its initial nine teams, led by owners like Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal, and Will Smith, have been battling for the first-ever E1 trophy that was scheduled to take place in Hong Kong this fall.

However, as a nascent league, the E1 Series has shifted its schedule several times throughout the past year. The initial start of electric boat racing was pushed, but several dates were locked in for competition around the globe.

Events originally planned for Geneva and Rotterdam were nixed mid-season, but the E1 racing teams have competed in five Grand Prix, including Jeddah, Venice, Monaco, and most recently, Lake Como. As announced earlier this year, the E1 Championship was scheduled to take place in Hong Kong in November. However, the E1 website currently has the date and location of that season finale listed as TBC.

Regardless of where and how season one ends, the E1 Series is already beginning to solidify more electric boat racing locations for season two in 2025.

E1 racing series will compete in Qatar in 2025

According to a release from the E1 Series, season two will feature its electric boats racing across the waters of Doha, Qatar, in February 2025. To make it official, E1 co-founders Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag attended a ceremony alongside Visit Qatar and United Development Company on September 30th at Corinthia Yacht Club, The Pearl Island, Qatar.

Doha is now secured as the first official racing location of the 2025 E1 season, and the agreement has been described as a “landmark deal” between the young racing series and Visit Qatar. Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, spoke about the agreement:

Through our partnership with E1, Visit Qatar will bring to the country a new sporting championship, further enriching the country’s sports scene. Qatar continues to enhance its sports infrastructure and hosting mega-sporting international tournaments for residents and visitors to experience. The significance of Qatar’s sporting legacy lies in the country’s track record of hosting and supporting major sporting events. Qatar has built a reputation as a hub for international sports tournaments, hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the AFC Asian CupTM to name a few. We are also preparing to host FIBA World Cup in 2027 and the Asian Games 2030, all of which showcases the country’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, organisational capabilities, and commitment to excellence.

Corinthia Yacht Club on The Pearl Island of Doha will host the E1 racing series from February 21 to 22, 2025. The area features 32 km of new coastline and accommodates an estimated 25,000 residences, home to a community of 52,000 residents. Together, E1 and Visit Qatar look to promote tourism to the Middle Eastern region and sustainability across its waters.

While we await the announcement of more racing locations for 2025, our next focus will be on the pending E1 UIM Championship for 2024, wherever and whenever that might be.
