Today, Tesla started gradually pushing a new software update with a few new features that will work with all vehicles. It’s not the v8.1 with the important UI changes that Tesla owners are waiting for, but there are new features that some might enjoy, especially an update to the Supercharger listing in maps and the ability to assign driver profiles to dedicated key fobs.
Under the new v8.0.2 update, Tesla is now listing amenities around Superchargers to facilitate planning a road trip when using its in-car ‘Maps’ app. For example, you can more easily see if there are stores or restaurants with WiFi or restrooms within walking distance of the Tesla Superchargers that you will be using during your road trip.
The other main new feature is the ability to link a driver profile to a specific key fob. That way, if there is more than one driver associated with a Model S or X, there’s no need to change driver profiles in the vehicle; instead, your ideal seat and steering wheel position will be automatically adjusted when the dedicated key fob is detected.
In order to link the key fob, Tesla owners can go to CONTROLS > Settings > Driver Profiles.
There are a few other more minor changes with this new update, like the addition of a few equalizer settings.
The automaker is also pushing some Model X specifics updates. We are only talking about minor tweaks related to the key fob, like ‘Summon’ can now be initiated from the key instead of only through the app, and Model X owners can change a few key fob settings related to the automatic closing of the front doors and Falcon Wing doors.
More UI improvements are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks and months, including anticipated fixes to the media player, an update to the new “always-on climate control,” and the “big” mobile app update.
Owners of Model S and X equipped with the new Autopilot 2.0 hardware are also expected to gradually get more features in the coming weeks to bring them to parity with the first generation Autopilot. You can read the full list of currently missing features here.
