The new 2027 BMW i3 is here with up to 468 miles of range, but it’s not cheap

BMW opened orders for the 2027 i3 early after strong initial demand. The all-new electric sedan can drive up to 468 miles on a single charge, but it’s not exactly cheap.

2027 BMW i3 prices and range for the US

The rumors turned out to be true. BMW opened reservations for the new i3 in the US on Wednesday, a week earlier than expected.

You can now place a reservation and customize your all-new 2027 i3 with a $1,000 deposit on BMW’s website.

BMW’s electric sedan is initially available in one configuration: the i3 50 xDrive. The dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain delivers up to 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque combined, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Following the new iX3 SUV, the i3 is the second EV based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform with its sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive system.

BMW said the setup unlocks an estimated range between 446 and 468 miles. That’s BMW’s estimated range based on EPA testing standards. According to EPA estimates, the 2027 BMW iX3 has a range of around 440 miles, which is still impressive.

Thanks to its 800V architecture, the i3 can add between 191 and 208 miles of range in just 10 minutes with DC fast charging at up to 400 kW. It also has a native NACS port so that you can use Tesla Superchargers without a separate adapter.

The setup supports bidirectional charging, enabling it to act as a mobile power bank with a vehicle-to-load discharge adapter. Vehicle-to-home enables it to provide power during an outage.

Inside, the new i3 features BMW’s new Panoramic Vision, a full-length windshield display, and a 17.9″ central infotainment screen with its latest Operating System X. You can also opt to add the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display.

The new 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive is available to order, starting at $61,500. Including the $1,350 destination fee, prices start at $62,850.

A new i3 60 xDrive variant will join the lineup in 2027 with M-specific features, including the new front-end light graphic and optional M Yellow Lights. BMW has yet to announce prices, but you can expect the sportier i3 to start at over $65,000 as the range-topping trim.

Starting at $61,500, the 2027 i3 sedan is the same price as the new iX3 SUV, which went on sale earlier this year.

It’s also considerably more than the Tesla Model 3 and Mercedes CLA EV, which start at $38,630 and $47,250.

Meanwhile, BMW’s new electric sedan already looks like a hit in Europe, securing over 100,000 orders.
