The Seal 08 boasts “the power of a million-dollar vehicle,” but can be bought for under $30,000 in China. After it went on sale last week, locked-in orders for BYD’s new flagship electric sedan reached around 65,000 in its first 30 hours.

BYD is best known for its low-cost electric vehicles, like the Seagull (sold overseas as the Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini), which starts at under $10,000 (56,800 yuan) in China.
Over the past few months, the company has rapidly expanded its new lineup with new electric supercars, flagship SUVs, and updated high-volume sellers.
After launching the Seal 08 last week in China, BYD’s flagship electric sedan, it’s reportedly already off to a promising start.
According to data compiled by Xueqiu BYD researcher Andy Ding, total locked-in orders for the Seal 08 reached about 65,000 in just over 30 hours after launching. The figure includes 40,000 blind orders since June 12, plus another over 25,000 after it went on sale last week.
The most popular version was the pure-electric Seal 08 model, accounting for over 65% of orders. Buyers preferred the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model.

The dual-motor setup delivers a combined 683 hp (510 kW), enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds.
BYD launched the flagship sedan on June 2 with pure-electric (EV) and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
It’s available in six variants, three EV and three PHEV, both starting at 196,900 yuan ($29,000). All versions are equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system.

The EV variant is built on an 800V architecture with Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) as standard, delivering a CLTC range of up to 905 km (562 miles). The Flagship AWD variant offers a range of 785 km (487 miles).
Equipped with BYD’s ultra-fast Flash Charging tech, the electric sedan can add 400 km (248 miles) of range in just 5 minutes.
Measuring 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, BYD’s flagship sedan is slightly bigger than the Tesla Model S.

Inside, the Seal 08 features luxury extras like zero-gravity front seats, a large 15.6″ central floating infotainment screen, and an augmented reality head-up display.
All variants are equipped with a LiDAR and BYD’s God’s Eye B ADAS system, offering safety and convenience features such as navigation on autopilot (NOA) in the city and on highways, as well as automatic remote parking.
More expensive trim options gain premium features like BYD’s Disus-A dual-chamber air suspension system.
