You can now check when you’ll be able to order your Rivian R2

Rivian has released approximate order invite dates to reservation holders for its new mid-sized Rivian R2 SUV.

Rivian recently started shipping its new R2, which also coincided with the availability of demo drives, order invites, and media reviews.

The R2 is basically a smaller version of the company’s flagship R1S SUV, with a few new features and in a much more space and energy efficient package.

In our first drive review, Seth called it Rivian’s best vehicle “by a long shot.” I also had a chance to test drive the vehicle, and felt like Rivian pretty much nailed the execution (of a vehicle type that I’m not a huge fan of – I’m a small car guy, and waiting for the R3, myself).

It’s spacious and capable, and comes with a more attainable pricetag compared to the R1, with the R2 starting at $45,000.

Since the R2’s first unveiling back in 2024, the company has been taking reservations at $100 a pop to gauge interest and to establish a line. When the company announced availability on June 9th, it started sending out invites to reservation holders to finalize their order.

The first batches of order invites have gone out, but until now, reservation holders haven’t known quite when they’ll be invited to order. But Rivian updated its site today to give you a two-ish-month window of when you should be ready.

All you need to do is log in to your Rivian account and a page should come up showing you your expected date.

Owners have been sharing their expected dates and it seems like there’s some variability to them. Current R1 owners are getting accelerated timelines, but we’ve seen some non-owners with later reservation dates get earlier order invite dates than those with earlier reservation dates. Geography, whether or not someone wants to purchase a launch edition, and whether you have a lease ending soon could be additional factors.

So, if you’ve got an R2 reservation, head on over to your Rivian account, see what your expected date is, and feel free to share your situation in the comments. Deliveries will occur 4-8 weeks after you lock in your order.

Update: Rivian has now sent out emails to reservation holders. These include the line “R2 Performance with Launch Package will remain available for you until it’s your time to order,” so even later order windows will have access to the Launch Package if they so choose.
