Volkswagen reveals the ID.3 Neo, key updates for the ID.4 and other EVs

The ID.3 Neo is bringing a new look and major updates as the successor to Volkswagen’s popular electric hatch. Thanks to its latest software, the ID.3 is more advanced than ever, and other Volkswagen EVs, including the ID.4, can now be ordered with the updated infotainment system.

Meet the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo

The ID.3 arrived in 2020 as the first member of Volkswagen’s ID family of electric vehicles. Now, the electric hatch is getting a new name, new look, and other “extensive” updates.

The new ID.3 Neo features Volkswagen’s new Innovision Infotainment system and latest software, which is now available on new models, including the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7.

“The new software generation brings more performance and an even better customer experience to the ID. models,” Volkswagen’s tech boss, Kai Grünitz, said. In addition, all new ID vehicles are now equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), enabling them to power an electric grill, coffee maker, an e-bike, a campsite, or other electrical devices.

Volkswagen’s new ID models feature a 230 V socket that can supply up to 3.6 kW from the battery to external devices.

And that’s not all. The entry-level ID.4 and ID.5 are now equipped with the “APP 350,” Volkswagen’s new 187 hp (140 kW) drive system.

The system, in addition to a new 58 kWh LFP battery, is more efficient, delivering up to 25 miles (40 km) more WLTP driving range than the outgoing version (APP 310).

Other features, including a new digital key and app store, are also available on Volkswagen’s new ID vehicles, enabling you to use your smartphone as a key.

While the updates are rolling out to the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7, Volkswagen is preparing to launch a new series of entry-level EVs, starting with the ID. Polo this spring, featuring the latest tech. Grünitz confirmed that the “small and compact vehicle segments – ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI, ID. Cross – will also soon be launched on the market with these new innovations.”

The new ID.3 Neo is part of Volkswagen’s shift to names (Neo) from the previous ID number system. We should learn more soon, with its world premiere set for mid-April.
