Toyota’s first three-row electric SUV is finally here. The 2027 Highlander EV can drive up to 320 miles on a single charge, has a built-in NACS port, and a sharp new look. The Highlander is Toyota’s most impressive electric SUV so far. Here’s our first look.
Meet the three-row 2027 Toyota Highlander EV
We knew it was coming soon after Toyota dropped a few teasers leading up to its official debut. Toyota officially revealed the 2027 Highlander EV on Wednesday, its first 100% electric three-row SUV.
The electric Highlander is also Toyota’s first EV assembled in the US. It will be available with two battery pack options: 77 kWh or 95.8 kWh.
While EPA figures have yet to be finalized, Toyota expects the former to deliver up to 287 miles of range, and the latter to provide up to 320 miles.
Buyers can choose from two grades: Limited or XLE, with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrains. The Highlander XLE will be available in FWD and AWD models. The Limited grade, on the other hand, comes with standard AWD and the extended range (95.8 kWh) battery.

The new Highlander AWD packs up to 338 horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque from a dual-motor, all-electric powertrain. FWD models have 221 horsepower and 198 lb-ft of torque.
Toyota equipped AWD variants with off-road features, including Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control, to optimize traction and control on various terrains.
The 2027 Highlander EV is based on a modified version of Toyota’s Next Generation Architecture-K (TNGA-K) platform, which Toyota specifically developed to maximize interior space and efficiency in the larger SUV.

With an overall length of 198.8″, a width of 78.3″, and a height of 67.3″, the electric Highlander is about 4″ longer and 2.3″ wider than the outgoing model. However, it also has a longer wheelbase of 120.1″, up from 112″, which opens up interior space.
Like the 2026 bZ and C-HR EVs, the new Highlander features Toyota’s new “hammerhead” exterior design with slim daytime running lights and a closed-off front grille.
The interior has been revamped, featuring a new 12.3″ driver display and a 14″ touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia. The setup includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The cabin has “an elevated feel” with standard SofTex-trimmed seating and customizable interior ambient lighting.
When the third-row seats are folded, the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV offers more than 45 cubic feet of rear cargo space.
Interior space is maximized with smart storage options, such as the multi-function center console, which offers a small storage tray, cup holders, and under-tray storage. With 18 cup holders, every passenger has a place to put their drink, or two.

Optional features include an available fixed glass panoramic roof, the largest of any Toyota vehicle to date, and a Head Up Display (HUD).
Like Toyota’s latest EVs, the 2026 bZ, C-HR, and bZ Woodland, the 2027 Highlander has a standard NACS port so you can recharge at Tesla’s vast Supercharger network.
According to Toyota, the electric Highlander can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes “under ideal conditions.” It’s also equipped with a battery preconditioning feature and Plug & Charge capabilities to enable faster, seamless charging, even in cold weather.

As a first for Toyota, the 2027 Highlander EV can act as a mobile power source with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities. The technology enables it to power your home, lights, and appliances during an outage. Or, you can power up a campsite, tailgate party, or external electric devices on the go.
To help you save on energy costs, Toyota’s Charge Assist and ECO Charge features are designed to enable charging during low-rate times or when renewable energy is available.
| 2027 Toyota Highlander EV trim | Battery Pack | Driving Range |
| XLE FWD | 77 kWh | 287 miles |
| XLE AWD | 77 kWh | 270 miles |
| XLE AWD | 95.8 kWh | 320 miles |
| Limited AWD | 95.8 kWh | 320 miles |
The all-electric 2027 Highlander joins the updated bZ, C-HR, and bZ Woodland models as Toyota’s fourth EV in the US. It will be assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, while the batteries will be sourced from its new $13.9 billion assembly plant in Liberty, North Carolina.
With the three-row Highlander EV joining its lineup, Toyota will offer an electric SUV across nearly every segment, including a crossover (C-HR), mid-size (bZ), and an off-roader (bZ Woodland).
The 2027 Toyota Highlander will go on sale later this year. Toyota will announce prices closer to launch, but the three-row electric SUV is expected to start at around $50,000, or slightly more than the bZ Woodland ($45,300).
At about $50,000, the Highlander will go head-to-head with other three-row electric SUVs, such as the Kia EV9 ($54,900) and Hyundai IONIQ 9 ($58,955).
