Stellantis issued a recall for nearly 25,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrids after a software update left drivers stranded with bricked vehicles.
Stellantis recalls Jeep Wrangler PHEVs after OTA update
Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, announced the recall in a letter sent to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) this week.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has been America’s best-selling PHEV for the past three years and is on track for a fourth.
After pushing an over-the-air (OTA) software update on October 10, owners reported major issues, leaving some stranded with bricked vehicles that had to be towed to dealerships. Others experienced error messages and a sudden loss of power while driving.
According to some of the posts, several Jeep dealers were unaware of the software update and the issues it was causing.
Jeep said some 2023-2025 model-year Wrangler PHEVs may have been updated with software that could disrupt communication between the Telematics Box Module and the Hybrid Control Processor, leading to a loss of power.

Although the company has since pushed an update to the backend policy to avoid power loss, it’s still working on a final fix.
The recall spans 24,238 Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEVs, model years 2023 to 2025. Jeep estimates 100% of the vehicles included in the recall have the defect.
Stellantis is notifying dealers today, October 23, of the recall, while owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out around November 25.
