The world’s first mass-produced EV powered by a semi-solid-state battery is officially here, and it starts at less than $15,000.

SAIC MG launched the all-new MG4 at the Chengdu Auto Show on Friday, deeming it “the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state” electric vehicle.
The new MG4 is available in five trims: Comfort, Ease, Freedom, Smart, and the semi-solid-state “Anxin version” with prices ranging from under $10,000 (68,800 yuan) to about $14,300 (102,800 yuan).
For a limited time, the base model is available at a discounted rate of $9,200 (65,800 yuan), while the Anxin version is priced at just $14,000 (99,800 yuan).
SAIC is expected to begin delivering the range-topping MG4 by the end of the year. Based on its E3 platform, the new MG4 is available with two battery packs: 42.8 kWh and 53.9 kWh, offering CLTC ranges of 437 km (272 miles) and 530 km (330 miles). It can also recharge from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes.
Like many Chinese EVs, the interior is loaded with advanced tech and software. Buyers can choose from three infotainment screen sizes: 10.25″, 12.8″, or 15.6″. The semi-solid-state version is expected to feature the larger 15.6″ floating display.

As long as cheaper models keep getting released with decent features nobody is going to argue. Its really about what appears to be great deals and making a place for themselves in the EV market so these companies are going to continue to be highly competitive until only the most dominating are left. Someone else will have an answer to compete with these cars too.
The range-topping model also gets an advanced driver assist system. Powered by 12 ultrasonic radars, four surround view cameras, and another two at the front and rear, the new MG4 offers ADAS features including high-speed Navigation-on-Assist (NOA) and remote parking.
The new MG4 is 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,551 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. That’s slightly bigger than BYD’s popular Dolphin hatchback.
According to SAIC, the new MG4 received over 10,000 pre-orders within 39 minutes and 37 seconds of its launch. The limited-time discounted prices run from today until October 31st.
