Tesla Model S P100D converts gearhead Joe Rogan to electric: ‘I feel like I’m living in the future’

Tesla‘s flagship performance sedan, the Model S P100D (now simply known as the Model S Performance), has managed to convert famous comedian Joe Rogan, a longtime gearheard, to electric transport.

“I feel like I’m living in the future”, says Rogan.

Rogan is mainly known for his comedy, UFC commentary, and his hugely popular podcast, but he is also known in the automotive industry for being a gearhead who has owned some iconic vehicles including a 1965 Corvette and a Porsche 911 GT3.

When discussing electric cars and Tesla vehicles on his podcast in the past, Rogan has been critical – saying that the lack of sound and mechanical feedback is limiting the driving experience.

He has also been misinformed about the electric range and charging capacity when discussing Tesla vehicles with some regular guests who are Tesla owners, like Brian Callen or Tom Papa.

That said, Rogan was also impressed by Tesla’s next-gen Roadster prototype after the unveiling and he has shown some interest in electric vehicles as a technology enthusiast.

During his interview with Elon Musk last year, Tesla’s CEO apparently convinced him to give EVs a shot and buy a Model S P100D.

Now Rogan has taken delivery of a black Model S P100D and he has been raving about it on his podcast and social media.

He posted on Instagram yesterday:

“It feels like it’s punching its way through a wormhole using alien technology,” said Rogan about the vehicle’s Ludicrous mode.

He already discussed his new Tesla on several podcast episodes:

Electrek’s Take

This is awesome. I am a big fan of Joe Rogan. I am an avid follower of MMA and I always appreciate Joe’s commentary and insights on the sport.

I also follow his podcast and comedy.

Following his work closely over the years, it became clear that he is a hardcore gearhead and I’ve heard him making disparaging comments about EVs in the past.

It was frustrating to me because I knew it came from misinformation more than anything else and as someone who is trying to promote electric vehicles, it was bothering me that someone with such a great platform was spreading those EV myths.

But it apparently only took about a week in a Model S P100D to convince him that “it’s the future” – though I’d argue that it is the present.

I think this is going to have a great impact on EVs. I wrote when Joe first agreed to buy a Model S:

“The CEO of a car company spending two hours with a single potential buyer is not the most efficient way to sell a car. In this case, it is probably one of Elon’s best sales to date.

Joe Rogan is a highly influential person with his massively popular podcast and he has been known to promote products that he loves all the time.

On top of that, the fact that he is a gearhead and he is showing a willingness to try electric vehicles makes it even more meaningful.

It could influence many of his gearhead fans to be more open to the idea of electric vehicles.”

A week in and he has already been promoting the Model S in several social media posts and podcasts. This is likely to keep building up as we all know that the ‘Tesla grin’ basically never goes away.
