Elon Musk announces Tesla software update with new rain sensing neural net and Easter eggs

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the automaker is soon going to release new software updates with an upgraded rain-sensing neural net and several Easter Eggs.

With the Autopilot 2.0 system, Tesla decided not to go with a normal rain sensor to activate its automatic windshield wiper system and instead relies on a neural net system to detect rain with its camera.

They started releasing a beta version earlier this year.

Several owners have complained that it doesn’t work as well as a regular rain sensor, but Tesla has been promising that it will improve over time as the neural net improves with more data.

Now Musk said that Tesla is coming up with a new update next month:

The goal of the system is to more accurately sense the amount of rain in order to match the speed of the automatic windshield wipers.

Furthermore, Musk says that Tesla will also release new Easter eggs in upcoming updates before the holidays:

Tesla generally releases Christmas themed Easter eggs before the holidays like the car renders turning into Santa’s sleigh or a synchronized light show with Falcon Wing doors on the Model X.

Here are some of the previous Easter eggs featured in Tesla’s software updates:

Tesla also started introducing old-school Atari games on an emulator that runs on the vehicle’s screen.

Now, it sounds like Tesla is working to add other video games to the system. In recent months, Musk has been taking suggestions.

We will keep an eye out for those features and Easter eggs in upcoming software updates.
