Tesla Semi prototype spotted at truck inspection – it was ‘cleared’

A Tesla Semi prototype was spotted at truck inspection center off interstate 80 – seemingly on a cargo run between Fremont Factory and Tesla Gigafactory 1.

The electric truck prototype was reportedly ‘cleared’, according to the California Highway Patrol.

We have been tracking the Tesla Semi test program as the automaker claims it is seeing even more potential for improvements on the already insane specs that they announced last year.

After some tests, CEO Elon Musk said that the Tesla Semi production version will have closer to 600 miles of range on a single charge instead of the previously announced 500 miles.

Those tests include making cargo runs between Fremont Factory in California and Tesla Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.

Tesla already said that carrying cargo between its two factories would be the first use of the Tesla Semi trucks and Musk referred to the automaker’s logistic costs to carry cargo between the two locations as “gigantic”.

Today, one of the Tesla Semi truck prototypes was stopped at the CHP Donner Pass Inspection Center near the border between Nevada and California on the route to Gigafactory 1.

CHP posted some images of the truck during the inspection:

California Highway Patrol inspectors wrote on their Facebook page:

“The future has arrived…….The new Tesla truck tractor was inspected today at the facility.”

The officers noted that the truck cleared the inspection and that it was “very easy to inspect and very clean.”

The commercial vehicle inspection involves a complete look at the vehicle to make sure it complies with truck regulations and it is safe to be on the road.

Even though the Tesla Semi truck is only a prototype, it needs to be compliant and it’s good news that it didn’t have any problem passing the inspection. It sounds like the police even liked it.

The automaker is expected to keep testing the vehicle ahead of production.

Tesla plans to bring the vehicle to production next year. After Tesla revealed the pricing of its electric semi trucks last year, we learned that the regular production versions for the 300-mile and 500-mile range versions will be $150,000 and $180,000 respectively, while the company is also listing a ‘Founders Series’ version for $200,000.
