Man credits Tesla for saving his life after stolen car crashed into his rented Model X the day before his wedding

We heard plenty of crazy stories of Tesla drivers crediting Tesla’s vehicles for saving their lives after severe accidents, like when a Model S driver walked away unscathed from a crash ~500-ft down a hill last month or when a Model X crashed into a semi-truck earlier this year.

Now we have a similar story today of a man crediting Tesla for saving his life after a stolen car in a chase with the police crashed into the Model X that he rented for his wedding the next day.

John Tran shared a spectacular picture of the crash on Instagram – see above and below – and described the accident after he was leaving his rehearsal dinner on May 5th in San Jose:

“As I was pulling out of the parking stall and onto the mall loop street, I began to make my left turn to get onto the road. Just as I’m completing my turn a stolen silver car that was running away from police and helicopters going at least 65 mph, plows directly into my driver side door and immediately send me 20-30 ft away from my original spot. All airbags deploy and I’m seeing nothing but smoke in the cabin. At this point, I try to open the door by hand, but it’s stuck, and my right hand is swollen like a pillow. I try again by kicking my way out and am able to free myself. I get out and I see the drivers book it, and quickly followed by cops. Soon after an amazing mother and daughter who saw the whole thing happen came to help me and woke me up. Randomly friends who just happened to be in the lot saw me laying on the ground and assisted me up from my daze. Eventually they catch 1 of the 2 runners and I’m left with a busted wedding car sore hand, ankle, and ego.”

He went to the ER, but he said that he was virtually unharmed. The San Jose fire department told him that he was lucky to be alive after a crash at that speed – something he instead credited to Tesla.

Tran thanked Elon Musk and Tesla for “building an amazing life-saving machine.”

While he couldn’t use the rented Model X for his wedding, Tran was so impressed by the vehicle’s safety that he is now looking to buy one for himself and his wife.

The Model X achieved the highest safety rating of any SUV thanks in part to a very low center of gravity due to its large battery pack located on the floor of the vehicle along the entire chassis, which is something that probably helped Tran in this case.

Here’s a look at the Model X’s safety features.

Update: Tran shared a few more pictures of the aftermath on TMC:
