Tesla’s third-generation platform, which will first go to production for the Model 3 later this year, is expected to enable several new models for Tesla, including the Model Y crossover and Roadster 4.0.
But how about a coupé? A Tesla enthusiast took to photoshop to see how the Model 3 would look like as a coupé.
Aside from design, there are a few advantages to going with a coupé compared to the original Model 3 that Tesla unveiled.
For example, Tesla could give up the all-glass roof in the back and turn the trunk into a hatch. That’s something that a lot of people have already asked for the Model 3.
But ultimately, it’s a different car for a different market. Two-door coupés are just easier to make look appealing, but they are less useful. This latest fan-concept is a good example.
Reddit user PM_ME_YOUR_BOURBON released those two pictures:
Tesla’s production plans after the Model 3 are not exactly clear. CEO Elon Musk made it clear that the Model Y is the priority after the Model 3, but the crossover’s timeline to production is less clear.
In the past, Musk also mentioned a “Roadster 4.0” to come around 2019, he left the car out of his “Master Plan Part Deux” for Tesla last year. Musk said that the automaker is reserving the ‘Maximum Plaid’ mode for the next generation Tesla Roadster.
What if Tesla could instead leverage the Model 3 platform for a coupé with an option for a convertible roof. It would eliminate or reduce the need for a new roadster from Tesla. Either way, Musk said that Tesla aims to ultimately offer battery-powered vehicles in every vehicle segment. If successful, the odds that we will see a coupé from Tesla are pretty good.
