The Tesla Model S hearse is real and it’s to die for

A few weeks ago, we reported a new Tesla Model S hearse concept commissioned by a funeral transport company based in the Netherlands and built by a stretched limousine maker. At the time, the companies only released highly photoshopped images and insisted that the vehicle was the real deal.

Now that they officially unveiled it, we can confirm that it is real and actually quite impressive…

Our first post about the concept was quite popular and you guys had some fun with your sick sense of humor.

Leon wrote: “Now the only emissions will come from the body…”, and egoman added: “I bet it will be popular. People will be dying to ride in one.”

All jokes aside, RemetzCar, the company behind the concept, did an impressive job retrofitting the sedan to fit a full-size coffin. They cut the vehicle in half after having removed the battery pack. Then, they extended the base by 80 cm (31.5 inch) before fitting the battery pack back into the platform.

They released new pictures and it looks very good:

At first glance, it looks like quality work and they managed to stay relatively true to Tesla’s lines despite the significantly new shape. It would be interesting to know how the modifications affect the range and performance of the vehicle. We reached out to the company for more details, but we didn’t get a respond. We will update if it changes.

Of course, it is clearly a hearse and for funeral transport only, but it also actually gives us a good idea of what the Model S could look like as a wagon – almost.

Additionally and as a reader pointed in the last article, if you remove the glass top, you end up with an El Camino-like Tesla Model S.
