Zero Motorcycle owner adds neon wires to his electric bike for a low-cost Tron Light Cycle look

Zero Motorcycles has some of the coolest looking all-electric bikes out there, but it can always use some modifications. For the more flashy EV enthusiasts or the fans of the Tron Light Cycle, a Zero SR owner has an interesting low-cost mod.

Tony Kalniev, a Zero SR owner, added neon EL wire lights to the fairing and chassis of his motorcycle to literally highlight the lines in the dark.

Kalniev says that he often rides at night and complains that the features of his Zero SR are not visible. The add-on makes the features pop up and the Tron Light Cycle look is just a bonus.

He also added the lights on the wheels for added effects.

Here it is in the light and in the dark:

There are a lot of ways you can apply the EL wire, but Kalniev used hot glue. As for power, you can add a little 12 volt DC inverter and connect it the battery via the bike’s light connector at the front. If you connect directly, the light will automatically turn on when you start the bike, which is not ideal.

You can use the switch that comes with the EL wire to turn the lights on and off manually, but it’s kind of big for the Zero. Kalniev added a smaller one.

Here’s a video of the installation:

It’s a nice little project and low-cost modification. You can get everything you need for less than $40:

If you want to add to that the whole bike, the 2016 Zero SR starts at $16,000 in the US. It offers a combined city and highway riding range of 108 miles on a single charge with a 13 kWh battery pack. You can boost the range to 131 miles (211 km) with the “Power Tank”, a ~2.9 kWh add-on. It has 106 ft-lb of torque, a top speed of 102 mph (164 km/h) and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds.
