Tesla Powerwall is slowly starting to trickle down to a few markets, but only slowly since Tesla is reportedly focusing on the next generation product, which should arrive toward the end of the year. On its website, Tesla lists the home battery pack as available in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, UK, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
Now we learn that the Powerwall is also coming to Canada as Tesla chose an authorized reseller in the country.
Tesla distributes its home battery pack system through authorized resellers and for the Canadian market, they chose a newly formed company based in Toronto: ‘MPOWER Energy Solutions’.
Since it’s a new company with no apparent ties to other corporations and that Canada is not yet listed on Tesla Energy’s website, we reached to Tesla to make sure they are officially an ‘authorized reseller’ like advertised on MPOWER’s website and Tesla confirmed that it is the case.
You can now get on the list to buy the system in Canada, which would be a first after only a few installations in the US, Europe and Australia.
There’s no word on when it will make it to the country, but chances are it will not be before the end of the year.
During the conference call for Tesla’s second quarter financial result earlier this month, CEO Elon Musk commented on the stationary storage business and said that volume deliveries have been pushed to the end of the year:
“We are heavily production constrained. We’ve got our next generation technology and we are trying to get up that production line so it’s gonna be heavily concentrated in Q4 and primarily in November and December.”
While the Tesla Powerwall is primarily used to store electricity generated from solar panels and home solar installations are not exactly popular in Canada (except maybe in Ontario), the battery pack can also be used to provide backup electricity supply in case of power outages, which can be useful to a lot of home owners.
