Karma says ‘we’re in Tesla’s court’ with new Revero: $115,000 price tag and 50 miles all-electric range

Karma Automotive had an “online unveiling” for its new Revero, a sedan based on the defunct Fisker Karma, yesterday. While the reveal didn’t disclose much in term of specs, company officials have since been talking to the media and they revealed a few new details.

Chief Revenue Officer Jim Taylor said that the Revero should cost a little more than the original Fisker Karma. It should come at just over $115,000.

While it will cost more than the original, Taylor also says that it will have a better all-electric range. The Revero should get about 50 miles of range on a single charge before the gasoline engine kicks in. That compares to the Fisker Karma’s 33 miles of all-electric range.

Interestingly, Karma thinks the Revero is going head-to-head with the Tesla Model S. Taylor told Automotive News:

“We think we’re in Tesla’s court. If it was just about style, we would only go head to head with Aston Martin and Maserati. But these buyers are also interested in the technology.”

The Model S starts at $66,000 in the US and it can go up to $130,000 for the performance version. The Model S range, which is of course always all-electric, varies from 210 miles for the base version to 294 miles for the Model S90D.

Karma is bringing back its solar roof, but now they are boasting that it will actually recharge the powertrain’s battery pack rather than only the 12-volt battery that powers the accessories. The move follows Toyota with the new Prius Prime. The new version of the plug-in hybrid will also feature a solar roof able to feed the main battery pack.

For the Prius, we don’t expect the roof to contribute more than ~2 miles of electric range per day. It shouldn’t be much different for the Revero.

Karma aims to build about 900 Reveros during its first year of production, which should start later this year. The company would then ramp up at its factory in Riverside.

Wired got to drive one of the first new Revero:
