Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been working on the second part of his ‘Master Plan’ for the past two weeks and he is now a little late. While flying back to California after spending the past few days in Florida for a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch, the CEO said that he will be focusing on the Tesla Model 3 and Autopilot today, consequently pushing the ‘Master Plan’ again:
Will be working at Tesla on Autopilot & Model 3 today, then aiming to pull an all-nighter and complete the master product plan

It’s the tenth anniversary of the debut of the Roadster today. Some hoped it would coincide with the release of the plan, which Musk hoped to publish last week, but it looks like it will be pushed to at least tomorrow.
It’s the second time now that Musk has been referring to the ‘Master Plan’ as the ‘Master Product Plan’, which is interesting.
The first part was published in a blog post titled ‘The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me)‘. It certainly laid out the product plan in broad terms, but the focus was on the benefits of electric vehicles.
Now it looks like the second part will focus more on products. It would be interesting to get a timeline of Tesla’s future vehicles. We know that a crossover version of the Model 3, likely named Model Y, is coming. Tesla is also reportedly working on a next generation Roadster, but it would be surprising if Tesla doesn’t try to capitalize on its new vehicle platform to release more models in the coming years.
Especially now that it plans to make around 1 million vehicles per year in 2020. An expanded vehicle lineup could help achieve that goal. Tesla truck anyone?
But somehow I think it will focus more on the energy aspect of the company and how Elon plans to package products under the planned merger with SolarCity. He already addressed this during the conference call discussing the proposed merger, but he could elaborate on it.
Hopefully, we should know more tomorrow.
