Tesla releases all details on how to reserve a Model 3 [Deposit per country]

tesla Model 3 invite

In a blog post today, Tesla released all the details on how to reserve a Model 3 on March 31st, including the deposit required depending on your country and currency.

Tesla reiterated that reservation starts on March 31st worldwide in store, while it first said that it will be starting at 10am Pacific (5pm UTC), now the automaker wrote that it will take reservations when the stores open – you can check your local store business hours here. Online reservation will start at 8:30pm (3:30am UTC) at the same time that the livestream of the event will start.

The online reservations will be available on the automaker’s newly acquired domain Tesla.com, which currently simply redirect to Teslamotors.com.

The most interesting bit of information Tesla confirmed today is the deposit amount for each country/currency. Tesla CEO Elon Musk already confirmed the surprisingly low amount of $1,000 USD, but it wasn’t clear how Tesla would handle the exchange rates. Here’s the full list:

Currency Amount
USD $ 1,000
CAD $ 1,000
MXN $ 20,000
EUR € 1.000
DKK kr. 10.000
GBP £ 1,000
NOK kr. 10.000
CHF CHF 1’000
SEK 10.000 kr
AUD $ 1,500
RMB ¥ 8,000
HKD $ 10,000
JPY ¥ 150,000

The deposits are of course fully refundable as per Tesla’s policy.

Tesla also offered a few more details about the reservation queue order:

In order to be as fair as possible, there will be a different queue for each region. And as a thank you to our current owners, existing customers will get priority in each region, meaning that the fastest way to own a Model 3 is to own a Model S or Model X.

Tesla also released its full Model 3 Reservation Agreement:

The Model 3 unveiling will take place at Tesla’s Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, on March 31st at 8:30pm Pacific.

This information is actually not entirely true. The blog post says “visit your local Tesla store when it opens on March 31st”, and not “10am Pacific”. This is quite important for people outside US, but probably also for the east coast.

    What florian said.

With the Chevy Bolt on sale for at least a full year in advance and ticking all the same boxes as the Model 3 (except the prestige branding and, maybe, aesthetics), I wonder if the Model 3 will be as big a launch as people expect.

Will be good to see what further information they release next Thursday.

The Chevy Sonic is on sale for a little while and it had no impact on BMW 3-Series or C-class Mercedes. I don’t see your point…

The Chevy bolt is just a compliance car. There is no intention to mass produce it. However the Leaf 2017 will pose a serious challenge to the Tesla 3.

Bolt can max charge at 50kw/hour. And there aren’t that many chargers available especially for travel outside your 200 mile range. GM has no plans to install any chargers. Tesla’s can charge at 135kw/hour and already have a nationwide network of superchargers in place. Problems found on Teslas are acted upon immediately even over night with over the air updates. It takes a several deaths and lawsuits to get GM to move in some cases. Big difference.

I’ve had a Chevy Volt , ( and if a Chevy bolt) drives anything like the volt and the Model 3 drives like a Model S. I preidict bad things for the bolt . I currently own a Model S and basically here’s no way in hell I would go back to a volt. Don’t get me wrong #’s matter, price , miles , warranty and etc… But the excitement of driving a sedan that has supercar power and feel changes the game. (But the seats suck in a Tesla , I prefer the Volt ones ) that’s the only think I hate about my car.
