Hyperloop Tech co-founder and CTO Brogan Bambrogan was at the World Government Summit to pitch the Hyperloop to a crowd of government officials and world leaders today. You can watch his full pitch below:
Brogan Bambrogan was a veteran engineer at SpaceX when CEO Elon Musk first published his white paper detailing his vision for the hyperloop concept. At SpaceX, Bambrogan held several senior roles in the propulsion team before co-founding Hyperloop Technolgies Inc. with Shervin Pishevar, a venture capitalist and early investor in Uber.
The company now raised over $30 million to try to make Musk’s vision a reality.
The startup recently broke ground on its “Propulsion Open Air Test” (POAT) in Nevada. It also aims to make a 3 km full-scale and full speed enclosed prototype, which should be operational by late 2016/early 2017.
Hyperloop Tech now needs to convince decision makers that the system is real and a viable choice when considering to establish a high-speed transit system, which is why Bambrogan went to the summit to talk to government officials.
The CTO said that the company is working on both above ground and under water solutions. The system will work in a low-pressure environment, not a complete vacuum, and the pods will travel without contact using a levitation system.
They are currently working on the engineering, design and testing of the components of the hyperloop system:
“Today we are doing the engineering and design work to validate the components and sub-system levels of hyperloop: the levitation, the aero-thermodynamics, the pod structure, the tube itself, the linear propulsion motor. All of these things are gonna come together in the very near term for the full system test…”
The company hopes to run the first test by the end of this year at their North Las Vegas test facility and have a full working system in the next 5 to 6 years.

He has to say “This is real. This is happening.” because it isn’t real and it isn’t happening.
Oh, sure, they’re building something. But it’s gonna be exactly like maglev, monorails, pneumatic trains, etc. — *not cost effective*.
