Just a week after the first Tesla Powerwall for residential use in Australia has reportedly been installed in a Sydney suburb, we learn the company is launching a recruitment drive in Melbourne and Sydney to increase its ‘Tesla Energy’ team in the country.
One Step Off the Grid spotted 15 new job openings in sales and operations in Australia, all for Tesla Energy products: Powerwalls and Powerpacks.
The roles range from business managers and sales advisors to field engineers and technical support.
Tesla is distributing its home battery packs in Australia through Origin, the largest electric utility in the country, and solar installer Natural Solar. The company referred to the country has an important market for its energy storage division along with Germany and South Africa.
Heath Walker, a senior marketing manager for Tesla in Melbourne, said the company is increasing its staff and aims to scale quickly in order to offer the right support for the growing energy storage market.
As we often discussed, energy storage products, like Tesla’s Powerwall and Powerpacks, are expected to be quite popular in Australia where electricity prices are among the highest in the world and where there’s abundant sunlight.
Distributors in Australia offer the Tesla Powerwall bundled with a solar installation and the country already has the world’s highest per capita penetration of rooftop solar with 15% of households using solar for a total of 1.5 million households across the country. The company also appears to be planing a push in commercial and utility-scale projects as evidenced by several job postings relating to the Powerpack, Tesla’s 100 kWh scalable battery pack.
